Qualified as a Dental Hygienist in the RAF in 1954 and has gained a wide experience in a variety of practices both at home and abroad, including two oral surgery departments. This was followed by four years as a tutor hygienist before reverting to general practice.

During 1968-69 she was seconded to the Royal Navy to assist in establishing the RN Dental Hygienist Training School. Awarded the British Empire Medal in the 1970 New Years Honours list, she was commissioned as a Pilot Officer in April 1970. During the following 18 years she served as the Senior Tutor Hygienist for the RAF, gaining valuable administrative experience.

During this period she was a member of the Examiners Panel for the Central Examining Board for Dental Hygienists and served as an external examiner. She was also the Services Representative on the British Dental Hygienist Association Committee and a member of the Tutors Group.

In 1986 she was awarded the Order of St. John of Jerusalem with the rank of Officer, for services to your training, particularly in the medical field. After retiring with the rank of Squadron Leader in January 1988 she has worked as the Public Relations Officer for the BDHA and as a part time lecturer for Oxfordshire County Council.

Eveline Ann Gray

Qualified as a Dental Hygienist in the Royal Air Force in 1962. She has worked as a hygienist in Maxillo-facial department of an RAF Hospital and in General Dental Practice. In 1971 she took up employment in the Glasgow Dental Hospital as a Staff Hygienist in the Periodontal Department. Within a year she was appointed Tutor DSA. 1979 was the inauguration of the School of Dental Hygiene and Eveline was appointed Senior Tutor Hygienist prior to the schools opening in 1980. This has involved assisting with the organisation and running of the Training School and is a post which is still held. In 1979 she gained the Diploma in Dental Health Education of the Royal Society for the Promotion of Health. During her time as tutor, her lecturing has included pre and post qualification Dental Hygienists and Dental Surgery Assistants both at home and abroad. Also undergraduate and post- graduate Dental Surgeons and other paramedical groups.

Evelines hard work and dedication to the profession were recognised and she was awarded MBE for services to Dental Hygiene June 03.

She has an interest in preventive dentistry both Paediatric and periodontal, and, in Behavioral Science in Dentistry. An active member of the British Dental Hygienists Association she has been a member of the council holding the offices of Honourary Treasurer and latterly President. She is also Secretary of the Education and Practice Committee of the Association and also Secretary of the British Dental Hygienists Tutors Group. An elected member of the Dental Auxiliaries Committee of the General Dental Council she represents that committed on the Central Examining Board for Dental Hygienists.. Enthusiasm.

In Feb 2004 Eveline retired from Tutoring and now works in a Dental Practice.
